LOCAL BUSINESS –  Construction is complete and inventory added so the Dollar General Store in Semora can't be too far from opening.

Also, I hear that a Internet Cafe is going in the old Mickey's BBQ in Semora so the dollars you save at Dollar General can go in the games of chance at the Internet Cafe!

The Oak Tree Tavern at VIR Resort has specials so check out our homepage for the details at:www.hycolake.com

Don’t forget that Monday nights at Oak Tree Tavern at VIR is still doing the Steak, Spud and Suds dinner special for only $9.

VIR Events - If you attended the American LeMans race at VIR this past week, then you probably had a good time like I did!  There was suspense in the air while several championships were on the line. Also the all-time track record was set at 123.352 average speed by the Muscle Milk car.

My hat's off to the people at VIR who put on a great 4 days of racing and more.  When I say more, there was something for everyone.  There were people tailgating, camping, riding ATVs, enjoying meeting the drivers and crews, entertainment, sponsor displays, hospitality tents, car club displays and much more.  And this doesn't include the competition on the track!  The Muscle Milk prototype car was simply amazing in negotiating the 17 turns and transition in elevations around the full 4.1 mile course.  The Chevrolet Corvettes were an awesome display of American made horsepower and every time they went by you knew without even seeing them - it was music to my old NASCAR ears!  I highly encourage you to go to the next events at VIR and if the LeMans comes back, put it on your "to do" list.

If you have the need for speed, they have a class for you including street legal cars, amateur, karting or motorcycles so if you have an addiction to gasoline like I do, VIR can satisfy your urge. This weekend they have motorcycle racing so if you want to see an amazing display of skill and speed, come see the CCS Fall CycleFest of Speed.  All the info at: http://virnow.com/

COMMUNITY FUNCTIONS –  Person County Relay for Life is this Friday and Saturday at the High School.

PERSONAL FAVORITE –  Recently Bonnie and I stopped in at Dalton's Sports Bar and Grille in Uptown Roxboro for lunch.  One day we had the chicken wrap and the other a Quesadilla.  I'll have to give them both a 10 rating for taste.  They've perfected them and they are enough to share for lunch.  Try them along with your favorite cold draft.

LAKE LEVEL – You can always get real-time data on the www.hycolake.com web site from USGS or click here.  The USGS webpage now shows you the elevation above sea level.  410.5’ is normal level.  You can now get a text message or email if the lake level is at a parameter you set.  I’ve set my notice to occur at 411.5 feet which is 1 foot above normal.  This would be the time I need to remove stuff on the dock and make sure the boats are raised high enough to keep them on the lifts!  See the link on the USGS site or click here.
