Cell Tower Update –  The AT&T service is working great on Hyco and also in the Northern sections of the county.  I have a home wireless phone system that has Bluetooth which enables our two cell phones to connect to the house system automatically whenever we are at home and within about 50’ of the base station.  This has alleviated the need for a wired “landline” so I’ve disconnected it and the expense of paying CenturyLink.  I also talked with a Verizon Wireless dealer about getting Verizon to co-locate on at least the Hyco tower.  He said he is pushing Verizon to give him an answer either one way or another.  He has a home on Hyco and it certainly would be embarrassing to have to have an AT&T cell phone to get coverage being a Verizon dealer!  You can register your dissatisfaction as a Verizon customer at this link which will help the effort to get service at Hyco: https://survey.verizonwireless.com/vzwsurvey/

ADVISORY – Beginning 12/1/10 there are a few laws enacted you need to be aware of.  First, the “move over” law that applies to law enforcement vehicles now also applies to public utility vehicles so if you see Duke Energy working on the shoulder of the road, move over a lane or slow down – it’s the law!

Another law is that your license tag cannot have any of it covered up by a license frame.  I got behind a car yesterday with a Michael Jordan dealership frame and it was covering the “North Carolina” section of the tag.  This will get you a warning or ticket so look at your tags and make sure nothing is covered up!
