LOCAL BUSINESS – Lakeside to Re-open -
Activity has started at Lakeside a.k.a. Warm Waters this
week as new owners are attempting to get open by Memorial
Day weekend. Yay!
The Roxboro McDonald's is under
renovations to add a second drive up window, more seating
and outside seating along with more parking. Our McDonald's
operated by Meg and Roy Holler is one of the best operated
stores in the McDonald's chain. Thanks to Meg and Roy for
continuing to offer services and quality food at reasonable
prices.
Hyco Lake Marina and Outfitters has been
re-modeled and several products added including fresh meats!
Stop by soon and see the new layout and enjoy the new items.
It's a great time to pick up that Rib-eye steak, Ground
Chuck burgers, Filet Mignon, steak/chicken kabobs and throw
it on the grill. All meats fresh and great for grilling.
Also pick up your picnic or fishing supplies. Stop by and
take a look at the bright, well stocked store and play the
Lotto while your are there sipping a fresh ice cream shake.
Also your favorite beverages and more. They are also
offering pontoon boat rentals by the 1/2 or full day so
don't worry about that crowd coming over for the weekend,
rent a pontoon boat and take everyone out.
VIR - VIR
is in full swing with numerous events scheduled. The annual
NASCAR Test days are May 28th and 29th so if you want to get
close to your favorite NASCAR Nextel Cup driver, this is the
opportunity as several will be on site - you might even see
them out at local restaurants or the Oak Tree Tavern at VIR
so make sure to attend.
Also, if you always wondered
what your car, truck or motorcycle would feel like running
wide open, then come out and get track time for only $25 for
15 minutes during the fund raiser for the Boys and Girls
Club 1:00 - 5:00 on May 23rd.
The Steak, Spud and
Suds is also back in season on Monday nights for only $9.99.
This is very popular so come out and try it. And on Weds
nights, $1.50 draft and .50 cent wings are the special. It's
fun to just go down and sit on the porch or deck and have a
refreshing drink and no telling who you might see. Kyle
Petty was on site a few weeks ago so frequent VIR and the
Oak Tree Tavern
The Running Wide Open Karting event
by the Roxboro Area Chamber of Commerce is also coming up
June 14th. If you aren't signed up either individually or as
a 5 member team, give the Chamber a call - it isn't too late
to sign up. I started my "testing" at the kart track this
week so take notice it's time to come on out and get in some
practice time.
And if that isn't enough, on Friday
nights, there is live music at the Tavern. Starting around
6:00 PM and going to about 10:00 PM. Last night had the
Brown Brothers who always bring some of your favorite tunes.
Next Friday 5/24 is Matt Boswell and 5/31 is Dave Ferguson.
The spa at VIR is also having a special package with
lunch and facial or spa during May. This is always a hit
with the ladies so give yours a special gift and you'll be a

ADVISORY – We are
still hearing about break-ins around the lake so please use
due diligence in securing your property both by land and
water. I sure wished Person County would post electronically
the crime areas so we could help solve some of these crimes
- I've talked to some commissioners about this but you need
to encourage them also. Other cities post this data online
and we should to!

LAKE LEVEL –
You can always get real-time data on the
www.hycolake.com web site from USGS or
click here. The USGS
webpage now shows you the elevation above sea level. 410.5’
is normal level. You can now get a text message or email if
the lake level is at a parameter you set. I’ve set my notice
to occur at 411.5 feet which is 1 foot above normal. This
would be the time I need to remove stuff on the dock and
make sure the boats are raised high enough to keep them on
