COMMUNITY FUNCTIONS - Hyco Lake is bursting with fall color right now.  Take a ride out and see some of the prettiest pictures you will ever see.  I've probably taken a couple hundred all around the lake.  The fall colors are happening all around us and many of us ride up to the Blueridge Parkway.  It is only a short trip (about 2 hours) going up Hwy 58 to Danville, Martinsville, Stewart and then the Meadows of Dan to get to the parkway.  Several good places for lunch and of course the Chateau Morrisette Winery (http://www.chateaumorrisette.com/). If you want to know the state of the colors, click this link to get an idea: www.visitnc.com/journeys/articles/fall-color-l-fall-fishing/1/2012-fall-color-reports#

ADVISORY - This is the time of the year when we start winding down the active boating season and putting the boats and jet skis up for the winter.  A word of advice, either add a fuel supplement to you gas tanks to reduce the problems that gasoline with ethanol causes or fill up with non-ethanol gasoline.  I understand that most Pure stations has gasoline without ethanol including Hamlett's Store in Semora.  I've heard from numerous boat owners who had ethanol related problems this past summer when the boats are left idle for a period of time allowing the ethanol to separate and the result is water laden fuel.  After all ethanol is corn derived alcohol added to gasoline by government mandate.

LAKE LEVEL - You can always get real-time data on the www.hycolake.com web site or from USGS or click here.  The USGS webpage now shows you the elevation above sea level.  410.5' is normal level.  You can now get a text message or email if that lake level is at a parameter you set.  I've set my notice to occur at 411.5' which is 1 foot above normal.  This would be the time I need to remove stuff on the dock and make sure the boats are raised high enough to keep them on the lifts!  See the link on the USGS site or click here.
