COMMUNITY FUNCTIONS – Our local Roxboro
Rotary Club is having their annual fundraiser (products
still available as of today 12/22/11). They are selling Charmin
bath tissue and Bounty Paper towels by the case. Now I know
every one of you use these products and have to buy them so why not
help support our local causes by making a purchase? I’ll make
it even easier by doing it online at this link: http://www.roxbororotaryclub.org/orderform.htm
And, we deliver to you so what’s you excuse for not buying??
You can rest assured that there is no overhead, no cut going to a
national organization or any other reduction in the funds used here
locally. Past donations have been with an organization that
I’m sure you support like: Person County Rescue Squad, Roxboro
Community School, PCC WWII Scholarship, Richie Jones Scholarship,
Christian Help Center, Roots and Wings, 5th grader
dictionaries, Youth for Christ, Boy/Girl Scouts and many more. Order
today!

PERSONAL FAVORITE – I mentioned
the fabulous Christmas light show at Casville just west of Yanceyville
last newsletter. Friends and us went Saturday night and I have
to tell you it is simply worth the drive to see. Just go about 8
miles west of Yanceyville on Hwy 158 West toward Reidsville and at the
flashing light at Casville, turn left. It will be about ½ mile
on the left. You can park and walk around all the little out
buildings with displays or ride through the paved drive all way around
the house and view from your car. Either way it is enjoyable.
If you missed our Uptown Christmas Parade, then
you missed a great time. Plan to attend next year!
ADVISORY – The
North Carolina Gas Tax is already the third highest in the nation and
was just increased by 2 cents per gallon (July 1, 2011). It is
projected to increase another 4 cents per gallon (January 1, 2012).
This increase will bring our gas tax to 39 cents per gallon, an 11%
increase, making ours the 2nd highest gas tax in the nation! During
this legislative session, House Bill 399, which would have capped our
gas tax, was introduced and signed by 26 Republican House members.
Unfortunately, this bill was not heard in either the House or the
Senate. Immediately after Thanksgiving, legislators return to Raleigh.
We need to send a strong message that struggling North Carolinians
cannot take another gas tax increase. OUR GAS TAX MUST BE CAPPED!
Please TAKE
ACTION
by calling the office of Thom Tillis, Speaker of the North Carolina
House, and Phil Berger, President Pro Tempore of the North Carolina
Senate. Please ask Representative Tillis and Senator Berger to allow
House Bill 399 to be heard and voted on.
The Honorable Thom Tillis
House Speaker (919)
733-3451
The Honorable Phil Berger
Senate President Pro Tempore (919)
733-5708

LAKE LEVEL – You can always get
real-time data on the www.hycolake.com
web site from USGS or click
here. The USGS webpage now shows you the elevation
above sea level. 410.5’ is normal level. You can now get
a text message or email if the lake level is at a parameter you set.
I’ve set my notice to occur at 411.5 feet which is 1 foot above
normal. This would be the time I need to remove stuff on the
dock and make sure the boats are raised high enough to keep them on
the lifts! See the link on the USGS site or click
here.
