Person County Government is redesigning their web site at www.personcounty.net  If you have any suggestions or request for modifications, please send Assistant County Manager Gene Hodges an email at: ghodges@personcounty.net

The Person County Museum of History now has a George W. Kane exhibit on display.  Mr. Kane’s company built most of the commercial buildings in Roxboro and several homes.  It is worth the time to go by our museum to learn about Mr. Kane.  Our “high rise” building in Roxboro better known as the Roxboro Building was built in the late 1940s and is where ESI is located. More info about the museum is located on the Person County Tourism web site at this link: http://www.visitroxboronc.com/heritage.htm

PERSONAL FAVORITE –  Always some good things to buy at Roxboro Savings Bank on their benefit for Relay for Life.  That is today 9/2/11 at the bank in uptown Roxboro.  Swing by and enjoy!

ADVISORY – Also, if you are an AT&T Wireless customer and have noticed some outages on the Hyco Lake tower and called AT&T, you may have had a problem reporting the problem in that AT&T can’t locate our tower.  The technician will use your zip code to look for towers within about 3 miles so if you give them the Roxboro, Leasburg or Semora zip code, they may not find the tower.  The tower site is identified as: AT&T Site ID Lake Hyco 368-424

So when you call, give them the site ID and they will look to see if there are problems.  Many times they’ll just note the call and after several calls may then investigate further.  If more people give them the Site ID then maybe they will look into it sooner. Call 800-331-0500  I also understand that all the AT&T sites are to be upgraded soon to the latest technology which should greatly enhance data speeds. I talked to the tower crew working in the Hill Street site this week and he said they are in town to upgrade all the sites.

The magazine introduces you to many new people and businesses, as well as the familiar faces you already know.  Advertise, subscribe and support your local magazine and enjoy all that it has to offer... Recipes, information on local builders and real estate, products to use around your lake house or dock, home, business, entertainment and restaurant features, fishing tips, calendar of events and more! If you have photos or ideas to share, events to post or want to advertise your business give us a call at 336.260.2045, 336.260.3860 or email us at feedback@hycomagazine.com

LAKE LEVEL – You can always get real-time data on the www.hycolake.com web site from USGS or click here.  The USGS webpage now shows you the elevation above sea level.  410.5’ is normal level.  You can now get a text message or email if the lake level is at a parameter you set.  I’ve set my notice to occur at 411.5 feet which is 1 foot above normal.  This would be the time I need to remove stuff on the dock and make sure the boats are raised high enough to keep them on the lifts!  See the link on the USGS site or click here.
