ENTERTAINMENT  - Thanks to all the people who gave us a wonderful display of fireworks during the 4th.  I was in the crowd of approx. 300 boats near the Person-Caswell line on North Hyco on Sunday night and it was absolutely one of the prettiest displays I have ever seen on the lake.  It’s just something different about being on the water and being surrounded by natures beauty and the fireworks to enhance it!

COMMUNITY FUNCTIONS –  There are many so check out our calendar on our homepage at the bottom: www.hycolake.com

Person County Government is redesigning their web site at www.personcounty.net  If you have any suggestions or request for modifications, please send Assistant County Manager Gene Hodges an email at: ghodges@personcounty.net

The Person County Museum of History now has a George W. Kane exhibit on display.  Mr. Kane’s company built most of the commercial buildings in Roxboro and several homes.  It is worth the time to go by our museum to learn about Mr. Kane.  Our “high rise” building in Roxboro better known as the Roxboro Building was built in the late 1940s and is where ESI is located. More info about the museum is located on the Person County Tourism web site at this link: http://www.visitroxboronc.com/heritage.htm

PERSONAL FAVORITE –   Hope you’ve had a chance to visit the 2 Farmer’s markets in Roxboro.  Bonnie and I have really enjoyed the Silver Queen corn from Mrs. Day at the Roxboro Farmer’s market on Depot Street – it has been really sweet and tender.

ADVISORY – There have been several break-ins in the southern part of Person County lately.  Be sure to keep an eye on suspicious activity and report it to the Sheriff’s office. One person of interest is Lawson Bennett.  If you know anything about him, report it. Here is his photo.

Also, if you are an AT&T Wireless customer and have noticed some outages on the Hyco Lake tower and called AT&T, you may have had a problem reporting the problem in that AT&T can’t locate our tower.  The technician will use your zip code to look for towers within about 3 miles so if you give them the Roxboro, Leasburg or Semora zip code, they may not find the tower.  The tower site is identified as: AT&T Site ID Lake Hyco 368-424

So when you call, give them the site ID and they will look to see if there are problems.  Many times they’ll just note the call and after several calls may then investigate further.  If more people give them the Site ID then maybe they will look into it sooner. Call 800-331-0500  I also understand that all the AT&T sites are to be upgraded soon to the latest technology which should greatly enhance data speeds. I talked to the tower crew working in the Hill Street site this week and he said they are in town to upgrade all the sites.

LAKE LEVEL – You can always get real-time data on the www.hycolake.com web site from USGS or click here.  The lake level is back to normal.  The USGS webpage now shows you the elevation above sea level.  410.5’ is normal level.  You can now get a text message or email if the lake level is at a parameter you set.  I’ve set my notice to occur at 411.5 feet which is 1 foot above normal.  This would be the time I need to remove stuff on the dock and make sure the boats are raised high enough to keep them on the lifts!  See the link on the USGS site or click here.
