Meeting Notice - The Person County Commissioners are having their monthly meeting this coming Monday 11/1/10 at 7:00 PM.  There will be a comment time at the start of the meeting.  I plan to talk about the recent activities and problems with our Planning and Zoning Ordinance dealing with cell and broadband (Internet) towers.  If you don’t have high speed Internet as yet or good cell service, you should be at this meeting.  You don’t have to talk but can if you like by signing up before the meeting on the speaker list. The meeting is in the County Office Building on Morgan Street.

Early Voting in Progress  - You can now vote early for the November 2nd mid-term elections.  I have done some surfing and found the following for your reference if you need information on the local issues and voting.
Democrat – Found Facebook page for the Democrat Women in Person County; they also have a local office in the old Jack Reynolds location across from the former Pizza Hut on 501 bypass.
Republican – Found website at: www.persongop.org  They have an office in uptown Roxboro across the street from the Kirby Theatre on Main Street.  There is a calendar of events on the www.persongop.org site that also has information about early voting days and times.  There is also a sample ballot on the site for guidance in voting – click here.  Not sure who to vote for in the judge race?  Reference the sample ballot here.

Person County Elections Office – web site at: http://www.personcounty.net/Government/Departments/Elections.aspx  The office is beside the Huck Sansbury complex on Morgan Street.  Only took us about 5 minutes to early vote!

There are several motorcycle rides/benefits in October so be sure to check out the event calendar at: www.personharley.com

PERSONAL FAVORITE – Now is the time to ride toward the mountains to see the leaves.  The quickest way we know is up 58 west from Danville, through Stuart, VA and on up to Meadows of the Dan where the Blue Ridge Parkway is.  You can ride North on the parkway and circle around to Tuggles Gap and then come back down Hwy 8 back to 58 East and on back home.  I’ve down this numerous times on a motorcycle and it is breath-taking!

Oak Tree Tavern at VIR Raceway.  On Monday nights, they have a steak, potato and beer or wine for only $6!  Last Monday night there must have been 25 cars in the parking lot. And, the steak was very tasty so that’s hard to pass up this kind of deal.  Don’t be intimidated by going to the facility near Milton, NC.  You enter the main entrance down to a guard post where you just tell them you are going to the restaurant.  Then turn right at the bottom of the hill, go about ½ mile past registration and turn right up the hill to the Oak Tree Tavern.  They also have great dinners and specials other nights.  We frequently eat in the bar and Ryan does a nice job waiting on us.  I recommend you try it out especially on this Monday night! http://www.virnow.com/food-dining/oak-tree-tavern.html

ADVISORY – There have been several checks written on a closed account identified as J&J Mechanical in Roxboro.  Call the Police Department if you see any of these checks (336)599-8345.

Don’t forget to winterize your boats for the winter.  The freezing temps will be here before you know it (or are ready).

ADVERTISER HIGHLIGHT – Want to be our Neighbor?  Prudential Pointer and Associates agents Arthur and Tammy Snead have our neighbor’s house listed.  This isn’t your everyday lake house but a house built with no detail left out.  You have to see it to appreciate all the details.  And, of course it is in the best neighborhood on the lake, Erroll Court in Bradmore Estates which is right across the road from the Person-Caswell Lake Recreational Area. Click here for more details or call Tammy at: (336)597-5544
