Cell Update – American Tower reports that the Hyco Tower has been delayed due to waiting on inspections. This is not the kind of report that I like to give and looks bad on Person County.  The tower was ready for inspection on 8/29/10 but just now received final inspection so the power can be turned on.  This will probably result in a in-service date sometime in November or December. I understand the delay was due to the County contractor of CMS who is responsible for inspecting the tower.

Also, no other carriers such as Verizon or US Cellular have applied to co-locate on the tower so for the next several months at least, AT&T will be the only carrier on the tower.  AT&T only roams with T-Mobile so your Verizon or US Cellular service will not benefit from the Hyco tower at this time.  If anything changes, I’ll let you know.

ENTERTAINMENT  - There are several upcoming events at The Flaming Star that you will want to plan to attend. On Friday Oct. 22nd The Castaways will be there and on Nov. 5th, Sammy Kershaw and Coastline Band will perform.  This is sure to be a big event so plan ahead now.  See more info on their calendar at: http://www.theflamingstar.com/schedule.htm

COMMUNITY FUNCTIONS - Yoga Class for beginners is being offered at Concord United Methodist Church. Early Voting in Progress  - You can now vote early for the November 2^nd mid-term elections.  I have done some surfing and found the following for your reference if you need information on the local issues and voting.
Democrat – Found Facebook page for the Democrat Women in Person County; they also have a local office in the old Jack Reynolds location across from the former Pizza Hut on 501 bypass.
Republican – Found website at: www.persongop.org  They have an office in uptown Roxboro across the street from the Kirby Theatre on Main Street.  There is a calendar of events on the www.persongop.org site that also has information about early voting days and times.

Oak Tree Tavern at VIR Raceway.  On Monday nights, they have a steak, potato and beer or wine for only $6!  And, the steak was very tasty so that’s hard to pass up this kind of deal.  Don’t be intimidated by going to the facility near Milton, NC.  You enter the main entrance down to a guard post where you just tell them you are going to the restaurant.  Then turn right at the bottom of the hill, go about ½ mile past registration and turn right up the hill to the Oak Tree Tavern.  They also have great dinners and specials other nights.  We frequently eat in the bar and Ryan does a nice job waiting on us.  I recommend you try it out especially on this Monday night! http://www.virnow.com/food-dining/oak-tree-tavern.html

LAKE LEVEL – You can always get real-time data on the www.hycolake.com web site from USGS or click here.  The lake level is about 12’ low.  The USGS webpage now shows you the elevation above sea level.  410.5’ is normal level.
