LOCAL BUSINESS - 501 Flea Market I
hear is having large crowds on Saturdays. They are also
preparing for inside vendor areas so look for that soon. The
other good news is that I hear local merchants are seeing some
spill-over from the flea market patrons so get your flyers out to the
flea market and bring business into Roxboro!
Radio Roxboro has added video and audio files to
their website so now you can view recent news and other civic events
online. I missed the recent Chamber breakfast which was
sponsored by Cambridge Village so I was able to view the taping of the
event online afterwards. If you don’t know about the new
retirement village to be build near Cambridge Hills on 501 south, then
go to www.radioroxboro.com
and view the video. This is a nice service provided by our
friends at Radio Roxboro.
ENTERTAINMENT – The Castaways will

The Second Annual “Clash of the Carts”
will happen April 25 in Uptown Roxboro. Hand-made carts compete
in a downhill race where the fastest cart is not always the winner
since the judges rate several criteria to determine the best of
“Clash of the Carts”. For more info and entry forms along
with the rules for the carts, see the www.historicroxboro.com
web site or contact Steve Joyner at Roxboro Development Group: director@historicroxboro.com
336 599-0918 or stop by the office in the PCC Small Business and
Entrepreneurial Center at 105 North Main Street. Reserve
Saturday April 25th to be in Uptown Roxboro to witness this
hilarious race event in the streets of Roxboro. Start building
your cart now – for only $25 entry fee, you could win $500 and be on
TV!
CELL TOWER UPDATE – I met with the
independent tower operator last week and we looked at 3 potential
sites at Hyco. It appears that he may be applying for a county
permit soon to erect the tower he is moving out of Cary.
As a sideline, I am on a committee working to
bring high speed Internet to all parts of Person County. Hopefully
the latest Economic Recovery Package the Feds are working on will
trickle down here to rural America! Providing high speed
Internet to Person County is doable – it just takes money to expand
to the less dense populated areas.
ADVISORY – Be sure to shop local
to keep our dollars working to support our local businesses. With
the economic slowdown, it is important for us to spend our dollars
with the locally owned stores. Market data reflects that money
spent in locally owned stores gets returned 5-fold to the community
where out of town owned stores result in a fraction return locally.
Help keep your friends in a job, taxes low and services continued by
shopping with local merchants. The job you save may be your own!
We’re constantly adding new vendors and
services to our database so if you need a service that has been
recommended by a customer, check out the list. You can search
for services at this link: Looking
for Area Services – Click here. Also if you
have favorable reports of services, let us know and we will add it to
our recommended list.
CIVIC ITEMS – The Roxboro Kiwanis Club
is having their annual Vidalia Sweet Onion sale. Get 10 pounds of
these delicious onions for only $10. Onions will be ready and
delivered farm fresh during the first of May by the club. All
proceeds this year are going to the new ICU waiting room at Person
Memorial Hospital. Contact a member or call 599-5083 or 599-8850

motorcycle rides. Kelby is the son of Charlie Buck and Tammy
Oakley. See more info and register at: www.personharley.com
There are some regional events also on the calendar.
ADVERTISER HIGHLIGHT – Each newsletter,
we highlight a paid advertiser on the www.hycolake.com

Lake and Person County. Please support the advertisers!
This week we are highlighting J.
Harris Woodworks. They will be at the Southern Ideal
Home Show again this year April 3-5. If you need further info
