It’s sure to be a large crowd. They have added a “stage”
area off of the concrete so there is even more room for your pleasure.
The Pizazz Band will also be at the lake on July
4th at Doug Adam’s house. This is formerly where
Dean and Tammy Brooks lived with the red roof boat house near the
marina. I hear everyone is invited.
The annual Hyco Boat Parade will again be lead by
the Famous Mr. Earl starting around 3:00 near the bridge at the Marina

Fireworks are scheduled for the area near the
Person/Caswell line on North Hyco and also down at the ski course for
dark-30 on the 4th. This is always a great time to be
on the lake.

ADVISORY – I have heard that the
NC Highway Patrol and the Wildlife Officers will be on duty this
holiday weekend looking for DWIs so if you drink, don’t drive a car,
boat or jet ski!
I’ve also received some recent complaints about
jet skis coming to close to other boats while at high speeds. I
have also seen some of the wake-surfing boats that have water ballast
in them for making large waves coming too close to docks and fishing
boats causing damage or unsafe conditions. We all need to be
aware of other boaters and property and insure we have adequate
spacing and reduced speed to insure safety of others. It’s
also the LAW so maintain at least 100’ distance from other boaters
and docks. If you are within 100’, then the speed should be
reduced to “no wake” speed. For all the laws, see this link:
http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/EnactedLegislation/Statutes/HTML/ByChapter/Chapter_75A.html
HYCO LAKE REMINDER - As of June 1st
each year, all watercraft located below the 420 contour line must
display a valid annual boating permit or be removed from below the
420’ contour. A ticket will be issued if found without the
sticker. Even if your boat or jet ski is covered or just sitting
on a trailer below the 420’, it can be ticketed so either move it
above the 420 or get a sticker!
There is also a new policy statement that says
that you (the leaseholder) is responsible for any contractor you have
hired that is working on the shoreline you are leasing. So you
are responsible for anything the contractor does while you are paying
him so be sure he is complying with all policies. If you are
unsure of any ensuing work, contact the lake authority before work
begins or face a minimum fine of $300 or possible loss of your lease.

LAKE LEVEL –You can always get real-time
data on the www.hycolake.com
web site from USGS or click
here. We had over 3.5” of rain the last day or so
and the lake level is up over a foot as of 7:00AM this morning and
still rising. The lake will continue to rise approx. 36 hours
after a heavy rain so be aware that some docks may be submerged in the
next day or so.
