06/05/09BUSINESS NEWS – The Farmers Market is
now active in uptown Roxboro on Depot Street.  This week I picked
up some nice yellow squash and cucumbers.  They also had onions,
peas, zucchini and collard greens.  There is usually a vendor
there every day but Sunday.  Stop by early to get the best
selection. You may have noticed construction starting beside
the new O’Reilly’s Auto Parts on Madison Blvd.  I heard this
is to be a new Pizza Hut. We saw some Force Protection people eating
out yesterday in Roxboro so they are beginning to train here at the
facility in Roxboro.  Expect to see more of them in our motels
and restaurants and a few taking up residence in our area.
Welcome Force Protection. ENTERTAINMENT –  The Flaming Star

ADVISORY –  I have heard of some
reports of mail theft around the Hyco lately.  If you are missing
mail or suspect theft, be sure to contact the Person County
Sheriff’s department and the Post Office since this is a federal
offense.  Since the thieves are looking for checks or personal
information, you may later be hit with identity theft so if you
suspect your mail has been tampered with, watch your financial
accounts. HYCO LAKE REMINDER -  As of June 1st
each year, all watercraft located below the 420 contour line must
display a valid annual boating permit or be removed from below the
420’ contour.  A ticket will be issued if found without the
sticker.  Even if your boat or jet ski is covered or just sitting
on a trailer below the 420’, it can be ticketed so either move it
above the 420 or get a sticker! There is also a new policy statement that says
that you (the leaseholder) is responsible for any contractor you have
hired that is working on the shoreline you are leasing.  So you
are responsible for anything the contractor does while you are paying
him so be sure he is complying with all policies.  If you are
unsure of any ensuing work, contact the lake authority before work
begins or face a minimum fine of $300 or possible loss of your lease. We’re constantly adding new vendors and
services to our database so if you need a service that has been
recommended by a customer, check out the list.  You can search
for services at this link: Looking
for Area Services – Click here.   Also if you
have favorable reports of services, let us know and we will add it to
our recommended list. CIVIC ITEMS – There are several local motorcycle
benefit fund raiser events coming – The First Annual Ride for
Kelby on June 6 and Fire Fighters Burned Children Fund Ride on June
          13.  Also a Relay for Life Ride in Caswell County on June 27th.

There are some regional events also on the calendar. Roxboro
Community School will have their first graduation tonight at
the Kirby in uptown Roxboro.  Dr. Mickey Efird will
deliver a message to the graduates.  Dr. Efird is best known for
his teachings at Duke University and has written several books and has
          a video series.
He has provided sermons for many churches in the area one of which is Roxboro
Presbyterian where Bonnie and I attend.  The public is

that is uplifting and encouraging! ADVERTISER HIGHLIGHT – Each newsletter,
we highlight a paid advertiser on the www.hycolake.com
website.  If it were not for these paid advertisements, the site
would not be dynamic as it is and provide local information for Hyco
Lake and Person County.  Please support the advertisers!   I’ve seen a few SOLD signs around Hyco Lake and
I heard activity is picking up as far as people looking at property.
Now is probably the best time ever to buy that vacation spot on Hyco
and avoid those costly fuel bills coming in the future driving to the
beach!  Judy LaRue can assist you in finding that vacation
or permanent home on Hyco.  See her contact info and more info on
          her web site at: http://www.hycolakeprudential.com/
LAKE LEVEL –You can always get real-time
          data on the www.hycolake.com
web site from USGS or click
here.  We had over 3.5” of rain the last day or so
and the lake level is up over a foot as of 7:00AM this morning and
still rising.  The lake will continue to rise approx. 36 hours
after a heavy rain so be aware that some docks may be submerged in the
          next day or so. More
