02/13/09In this
newsletter: LOCAL BUSINESS - Golden Grill has
opened in the building on Madison Blvd across from Lowes Foods.
They have completely remolded the building and changed from a buffet
style to a sit-down meal. They also are serving beer and wine.
Bonnie and I have eaten lunch there a couple of times and it was
very fine! They have a large selection of daily menu items
including soup, entrée and rice with most having mixed vegetables. Several local restaurants are offering Valentine
specials this weekend so check out the Courier=Times for those. ENTERTAINMENT – There is some great
upcoming entertainment coming to Roxboro soon. BROADWAY
BOUND is
a compilation of songs, music, dance and comedy/drama from a variety
of popular Broadway shows and will feature Roxboro's finest local
entertainers. A true hit! Performances are at 7:30 pm at THE KIRBY on
Main Street Feb. . Tickets are $15 in advance or $16 at the door;
group rates for 10 or more are available. Patrol reserved seating is
available for $30. Call 336 322-1797, see any member of the
Roxboro Woman’s Club or email: jdevill1@aol.com
This is a great event that occurs every two years and features
wonderful local talent. This is a must see event! Keep up
with the latest entertainment on our Calendar. The Flaming Star has the band 86 Proof
this Saturday night. Many Daytona 500 Parties this weekend so get out
and watch this great race Sunday. Green flag drops around 3:30. The Castaways will appear at Vesuvio’s II
Club V-2 on March 20 CELL TOWER UPDATE – I talked to the
independent cell tower operator this week about the status of the cell
tower his was planning to move out of Cary to Hyco Lake. The
tower is still standing in Cary waiting on the completion of paperwork
(bureaucracy). The operator still has plans to locate the tower
at Hyco and has received favorable feedback from cellular operators
who would co-locate if the tower were available. With the
economy in slowdown, it is good to hear that some expansion is still
going forward! As a sideline, I am on a committee working to
bring high speed Internet to all parts of Person County. Hopefully
the latest Economic Recovery Package the Feds are working on will
trickle down here to rural America! Providing high speed
Internet to Person County is doable – it just takes money to expand
to the less dense populated areas. ADVISORY – Be sure to shop local
to keep our dollars working to support our local businesses. With
the economic slowdown, it is important for us to spend our dollars
with the locally owned stores. Market data reflects that money
spent in locally owned stores gets returned 5-fold to the community
where out of town owned stores result in a fraction return locally.
Help keep your friends in a job, taxes low and services continued by
shopping with local merchants. PERSONAL FAVORITE – We’re
constantly adding new vendors and services to our database so if you
need a service that has been recommended by a customer, check out the
list. You can search for services at this link: Looking
for Area Services – Click here. ADVERTISER HIGHLIGHT – Each newsletter,
we highlight a paid advertiser on the www.hycolake.com
website. If it were not for these paid advertisements, the site
would not be dynamic as it is and provide local information for Hyco
Lake and Person County. Please support the advertisers! No better time to buy a house, land or other real
estate. Prices are low, money is available and spring is coming!
I hear local banks have plenty of money to loan at interest rates
lower than ever. HYCO LAKE MAGAZINE - There is a company
working on bringing a magazine to the area highlighting Hyco Lake and
the area. There are so many things going on in the area
especially in the summer, the people involved believe there is a need
that can be filled with the magazine. Smith Mountain Lake has
such a magazine – you can see a online version at this link: www.smithmountainlaker.com
More news later on the magazine. There are also some great lake properties
available so check out the Realtor links on the left side of our
homepage at: www.hycolake.com
