LAKE LEVEL –Thank goodness for the RAIN!  I had over 5” at my house resulting in the lake rising about 16”.  The lake level is leveling off as we speak to about 409.4’ which leaves us about 13” low. You can always get real-time data on the www.hycolake.com web site from USGS or click here

LOCAL BUSINESSES – The COOKOUT opened last Saturday and has been busy since.  We’ve heard several people have already tried their burgers and shakes and have good reports.

YAMATO’S is opening Monday which is Labor day so if you are in town, try them out.  They feature Japanese and Thai selections and have seating areas.  Dao and Phillip Tran from Yamato’s in Durham are managing the store. They are located in the old KFC building on North Madison Blvd. Open 7 days 11-9 and 12-9 on Sunday.  Phone 322-1907 or fax your order 322-1906  I’ll scan a copy of their menu and provide it as a PDF document next newsletter.

Uptown Entertainment is a new night club on main street in Roxboro across from T&O Drugstore. Tonight, Friday night they will have local D.J. Eldredge Meeler playing all your favorite beach music.  Membership is $15 and $5 cover for members. ADVISORY

Low Water Hazards – I had a reader mention that they were unaware of some of the water hazards especially during low lake levels so I offered to cover some of these that have resulted in bent props.  Most are marked with a buoy but the problem is that the buoy does not quantify how large of an area that may lie beneath the water. Here are the ones that I’ll start with:

1) area entering ski course 2) old house foundation between islands and back of power plant 3) point area on left going toward dam near overhead power line 4)point area going towards Caswell County on right 5) old Hwy 57 road bed near South bridge 6) shallow area on left side of 57 first bridge.  I’ll take some photos and maybe mark up a map to indicated the areas in the future.

SECURITY INFO – There was a rash of incidents over the last several weeks where items were stolen from boat houses and even some homes broken into.  I have found a small camera and DVR available that you can install most anywhere or even just sit on a shelf.  It is a little larger than a pack of cigarettes and is battery and AC operated.  It can record on motion detection.  I have one in stock so if you would like it, contact me.

There were some arrest last week of people who may have broken into places around the lake.  If you have anything missing, you may want to contact the Person County Sheriff’s office as they recovered a lot of items.  I heard from one reader who lost a pontoon boat trailer so remember to chain down anything that you don’t want to lose!

PLANT INFO – There have been several readers who desired to know how the new scrubbers would affect lake level due to increased water consumption.  I don’t have a definitive answer as the gallons per day usage but was told that modeling reflected that had the lake level gone to 10’ low last year, then with scrubbers added, the model predicts that the lake level would have been 10.5’ low.  I was also told the consumption is less than a cooling tower and much less than lake natural evaporation.  I do have some estimates on cooling tower consumption, lake evaporation and the affect of rainfall on lake level just in case you are wondering.

AREA SERVICES -  Some of the businesses servicing the area are:

Eldridge Meeler – Lawn and property care services, 599-3237  - I personally know Eldridge and can vouch for him.

Peninger Landscaping – I’ve run across David doing lawn care a lot around the lake. (919)730-5802

Hope you have a great weekend
