VIR - Don't know what to get Mom or Dad for Christmas? Looking for something new, exciting, unique and different? Then call the folks at VIR and sign up Dad for an Atom 1/2 day experience driving a fast race car around the exciting VIR track. Or get Mom a day at the spa. Or, just get a book of VIR Bucks and let them spend it anyway they want including the Oak Tree Tavern or the Kart track. You might even want to get them a few nights stay in the Villas or tickets to an upcoming 2013 event. Your choices are unlimited and fun is the key word for VIR. (Mrs. Drysdale could use some VIR Bucks to get some lap time on her new 911 Porsche)

COMMUNITY FUNCTIONS – The Person-Caswell Lake Authority has developed a web site to provide facility information about the park and Hyco Lake. If you have a question for them, there is a contact form on the site. www.hycolake.org

The Church of Latter Day Saints is having a stew on Saturday ready at 11:30. $5 a qt. Eat in or out. 441 Burlington Road near Fat Boys. Go see Mark Phillips and let him wait on you! Proceeds used to support growth.

The Annual Community Choir will perform this Friday and Saturday at Roxboro Baptist Church at 7:30. This annual Christmas concert is open to everyone and brings special music to the season. A love offering is taken.

Take the time to ride down Main Street in Uptown Roxboro at night to see the new decorations. Thanks to the Roxboro Fire Department and Chief Torain for helping install the decorations.

Also, the Person-Caswell Lake Authority has assisted several lake property owners in decorating their boat docks. It is worth the drive out Hwy 57 (Semora Road) and see the lights reflecting on the water. It is truly beautiful at night. And if you want to make the 40 minute ride up to Ruffin on the other side of Yanceyville, there is a huge display of lights at a private home there. You can circle the drive or get out and walk through all the displays.

ADVISORY – Are you driving Intexticated?? I recently say this on a sign in Georgia advising against texting while driving. I've spent a couple thousand miles driving up and down I-95 lately and can attest that 9 out of 10 times I see someone swerving, encroaching on my lane or driving erratically, they are fooling with a cell phone. Do what I do and that is let my passenger talk while I drive. If you are alone, wait until that gas or rest stop to call the person or text them back - the world will not end but someone's life may if you are involved in an accident while being Intexticated.

LAKE LEVEL – You can always get real-time data on the www.hycolake.com web site from USGS or click here. The USGS webpage now shows you the elevation above sea level. 410.5’ is normal level. You can now get a text message or email if the lake level is at a parameter you set. I’ve set my notice to occur at 411.5 feet which is 1 foot above normal. This would be the time I need to remove stuff on the dock and make sure the boats are raised high enough to keep them on the lifts! See the link on the USGS site or click here.
