LAKE LEVEL - the recent rain (and some snow) has resulted in the lake level coming up to 408.40' which is about 2' below normal. The historical average rainfall for our area is around 3-4" per month so if history repeats, the lake should return to normal in the next 2-3 months.  It takes approximately 3" of rainfall to raise the lake 1 foot.

LAKESIDE RESTAURANT - The word we have is that Lakeside is looking to reopen around April 1st.  The format will return to more good food and entertainment from time to time.  Some of the people involved a couple of years ago will return to operate the restaurant.

DATES to REMEMBER - Most people gather for parties scheduled around the Super Bowl, Valentines Day and the Daytona 500 which are all upcoming. Some of the opportunities we have uncovered that you can consider involving food are:
Hamlett's Pizza in Semora for great pizza - call 234-0008 to order ahead.
Also, if you are a big stew fan, then Ceffo Volunteer Fire Department can fill your belly.  They have stew just made and frozen ready for pickup.  Call Joel at 504-0215 to arrange.  $6/quart and I can attest to the good taste as Bonnie and I bought 5 quarts recently and need more!
There is a new steak house in Yanceyville that is getting great reviews called Steaks on the Square.  Located at 188 Main Street in uptown Yanceyville.  Open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and starting 1/31 on Thursday for dinner.  They cook steaks using a wood fire grill.  Call for reservations to be sure you get a seat.  694-9663
The Yancey House is also having specials around Mardis Gras and Valentines so check out their schedule at this link: http://yanceyvillage.com/yanceyhouse/restaurant.htm  They also have added a new line of beef which they assure you it is the best around.
The Berry Hill Plantation also has some Valentine's specials so check them out also: http://www.berryhillestate.com/sp_events.htm
The Kirby Civic Auditorium and Rock of Ages has a Valentine's special also so check them out at: http://www.artsinperson.com/ac_perform.htm  Includes a show and meal.

FLAMING STAR REOPENED - The Flaming Star in Semora also reopened a few weeks ago.  Last Saturday night they had The Pizazz Band perform and had a large crowd considering the weather was bad. They plan to have a DJ on Friday nights and a band on Saturday nights.  They hope to have Pizazz back soon so keep check on their schedule at: http://www.thepizazzband.com/  The Brown Brothers (www.thebrownbros.com) who are also a local favorite continue to perform at Bogie's in Danville - Bogies is located in the former Howard Johnsons near the mall.  Janna Gammon from Roxboro runs Bogie's.

GARDEN DESIGN and CONSTRUCTION - No doubt you've seen rock and tile work around the lake on patios, sea walls and homes.  A lot of the work is done by Garden Design and Construction of Roxboro.  Be sure to check this link to see some of their wonderful work: http://www.hycolake.com/gardendesign.htm  Give Bill Warren a call at: (919)491-7672 for a free estimate or to go look first hand at some of his work.

OFF SITE COMPUTER BACKUP - I know you own a computer because you are reading this!  And as most of us have already experienced, the PC dies, gets struck by lightning, is stolen, has a hard drive failure or we the operator deletes a file we needed.  Well now you can rest easier with a off-site backup.  All your important files and pictures are stored on safe servers that uses high level encryption to secure your files in multiple sites so your data remains safe.  The system works in the background and at night so there is no impact on your PC and you do not have to remember to back up your files.  The program is supplied by Carbonite.  I have been using this for some time and now rest much easier knowing my important files are stored elsewhere.  All you need is a connection to the Internet and the Carbonite program.  Try it free without the need of a credit card for 30 days and then decide for yourself - and the best part, it's only $49.95/year if you decide to keep it backing up your PC.  I get questions all the time about how to back up data off-site so here is the answer - CARBONITE.  Click at this link for more info and to get your free trial: http://www.hycolake.com/carbonite.htm  We see people every week who have lost their data and freak out when they realize it is gone forever - don't let this happen to you - studies show everyone who owns a PC will eventually have a catastrophic failure eventually.

DSL and WIRELESS INTERNET - We don't have any new areas to announce as yet on broadband expansion.  The most recent announcement was that DSL is now available in the Shore Drive/Whetstone area of Hyco Lake.  Any day we expect more DSL coverage near Wagstaff Road area and South Hyco. We are also scoping out sites in the OakPointe area and the area where The Harbor is located on the Caswell County line.

CELL TOWER - No new news to tell you about here.  We are still talking with possible tower companies to get a tower(s) in our area.

More later, Randy
