7/18/08*****Cell Tower News Break***** Your support is needed at this very moment to
convince a major cell phone carrier to locate a cell tower at Hyco
Lake. A major carrier would like feedback on the interest in
expansion of services near Hyco Lake and we need you to complete our
contact form at this link: http://www.hycolake.com/contactus.htm
Please select in the dropdown box that you will either switch to the
carrier who serves Hyco area or support the expansion of services to
the Hyco area – either way, please take 30 seconds to complete the
form. This is not a sales pitch and your information will not be
shared with solicitors. This is the best chance I’ve seen in 3 years
to possibly get a cell tower at Hyco. Whether you live there or
not, please support expanding services in Person County. Forward
this email to anyone who you know would support this expansion. Now to the news! LAKE LEVEL – Current lake level is
409.22’ so that means it is down about 15”. You can always
get real-time data on the www.hycolake.com
web site from USGS or click
here. LOCAL BUSINESSES Warm Waters Restaurant (Formerly Lakeside)
is back and jumping! They are open 7 days a week.
I talked to Jeff Oliver the new owner and he is committed to providing
a great dining atmosphere and when there is entertainment, it will be
either outside on the patio or after dining hours. The inside
and outside has all been remodeled and looks great with a lake theme.
There is no smoking inside for your comfort in a smoke-free
environment. Jeff plans more upgrades to the patio area in the
next few weeks but it already looks fresh and inviting. They
plan to offer special dinners and drinks so watch for announcements in
this newsletter. Jeff is also committed to maintaining inventory
so if it is on the menu, expect it to be available! Stop by and see
the great job they have done on remodeling and enjoy the new 5 tons of
air conditioning. There is a dress code so if you are coming in
from the lake, you may wish to eat on the patio. Jeff plans to
put a canvass covering over the patio soon. Their new
phone number is: 599-5000 If you would like to print out a mini phone list
of contacts in the lake area to put on your fridge, click on this

I went down a couple of days this week and the local produce is
overflowing with some great buys and great taste. It is located
on Depot Street and open 6 days right now from 7:30 to 11:30.
Get there early to beat the crowd. Silver Queen corn is
plentiful right now. I take the corn, cut off each end with a
special little contraption I made, wrap shuck and all in two layers of
aluminum foil and put on the Holland grill for 35 minutes. Take
it off and the shuck and silk just falls off ready for butter and
salt! Nothing better. I’ll take a picture of my cutting
vice that makes the cutting easy to send out later. ENTERTAINMENT – The 6th Annual
Flem Whitt Beach Music Festival will occur on August 2 at

336-599-0266 for request – now if we could only make a cell call
from the boat on Hyco and Mayo! Wine
Tasting at Hyco Marina
planned for August 1st. Put this on your calendar –
more info in coming newsletters. This is a well attended event
and worth the drive out! Keep up with the latest entertainment on our Calendar. ADVISORY – No advisories to report this
week other than remember to have all your boat safety items. The
N.C. Wildlife game wardens are busily checking boaters so be ready
when they approach your boat! I’ve heard of one person being
stopped six times this year so they are busy. You might want to
jot down the officer’s name when checking you so that if there is a
trend here, we will know about it. It would be nice if we had
the Coast Guard Auxiliary or some other organization to check our
boats and place a sticker on the boat notating that the boat is
current on safety equipment. I witnessed this while on the water
in Florida and it cuts down on the “safety” checks by the
officers. PLANT INFO – There have been some
questions about the increased water consumption by the plant due to
the installation of scrubbers and the lake level dropping while
getting some rainfall over the last month or so. Basically, the
plant usage and lake evaporation are the two largest items that draw
down the lake level. Rainfall is the major supplier of water so
we are dependent on Mother Nature. During the summer, we need
about 4 inches of rain per month to maintain normal level give or take
an inch. Anything less and the lake level will decrease.
If you want to see the specifics or the math on the hydraulics of the
lake and the plant, let me know and I will send it to you. Hope you have a great weekend Please don’t forget to fill out our form right
