Hope you had a great holiday last weekend.  The lake was full of boats and the boat parade had a long line of boats.  We watched fireworks from the area near the Caswell County line and it was fantastic.  About 5 different landowners were shooting fireworks so we were surrounded by aerials which reflected off the water.  There were probably 250 boats in that one area from the recreation area to the Caswell County line.  Thanks to all the contributors who gave us such an inspirational show!  The 4th of July Parade was bigger than ever in Uptown Roxboro also so remember to attend next year.

LAKE LEVEL – Current lake level is 409.44’ so that means it is down a little over a foot.  The rain has been varied around the lake but bottom line is all it has done is stabilize the level at about a foot low. We only have received about 1.25” of rain where we live on Cobb’s Creek since last report where some other property owners have received more. You can always get real-time data on the www.hycolake.com web site from USGS or click here

LOCAL BUSINESSES

Warm Waters Restaurant (Formerly Lakeside) is open as of last Friday and doing a brisk business.  We were the first paying customers on the 4th and everything was great.  We’ve been back twice since and each time tried different items all of which have been excellent.  They are open 7 days a week.  I talked to Jeff Oliver the new owner and he is committed to providing a great dining atmosphere and when there is entertainment, it will be either outside on the patio or after dining hours.  The inside and outside has all been remodeled and looks great with a lake theme.  There is no smoking inside for your comfort in a smoke-free environment.  Jeff plans more upgrades to the patio area in the next few weeks but it already looks fresh and inviting.  They plan to offer special dinners and drinks so watch for announcements in this newsletter.  Jeff is also committed to maintaining inventory so if it is on the menu, expect it to be available! Stop by and see the great job they have done on remodeling and enjoy the new 5 tons of air conditioning.  There is a dress code so if you are coming in from the lake, you may wish to eat on the patio.  Jeff plans to put a canvas covering over the patio soon.   Their new phone number is: 599-5000

If you would like to print out a mini phone list of contacts in the lake area to put on your fridge, click on this link: Click here

Superior Garage Door, LLC is the company you call when you need that garage door installed or repaired.  If you are like most of us, you will be calling someone to fix that broken spring or adjust the door so it doesn’t bind and reverse direction.  David Brown has been around a long time maintaining doors in our area.  You can call him at: 336 364-2029 or 800 485-7110  He also is fast as he is tall enough to work without a ladder!  (And a real nice guy to boot)

The Farmers Market is booming in Roxboro.  I went down a couple of days this week and the local produce is overflowing with some great buys and great taste.  It is located on Depot Street and open 6 days right now from 7:30 to 11:30.  Get there early to beat the crowd.

ENTERTAINMENT – The 6th Annual Flem Whitt Beach Music Festival  will occur on August 2 at the recreation area at the lake.  This annual festival is very well attended and a great time for all generations of music lovers.  It doesn’t matter if you dance or not, the music and atmosphere offer a great time.  The price of admission gets you all the Budweiser products and 4 bands including the Band of Oz, Jim Quick and Coastline, Fantastic Shakers and the Craig Woolard Band.  Gates open at 11:00 and bands start at 12:00 Noon.  Bring your lawn chair and umbrella for the sun and enjoy the fantastic music from the areas greatest bands. Dex at Warm Waters Restaurant Saturday night at around 8:30.  DJ Dex will get things bumping on the patio at Warm Waters.  Come enjoy a great dinner and then stay for DJ Dex.  It’s suppose to be great summer weather Saturday night so plan to meet your friends at Warm Waters by boat, car or motorcycle!

The Flaming Star will also be featuring Iron Gate Winery wines tonight and tomorrow night.  Free wine tasting and wine for purchase so come by early to taste these fine local wines. The bar on the right hand side beside the bandstand will have wines. The Soul Tymers will be playing on Saturday night 7/12 at The Flaming Star.

Pizazz Band is on the schedule for July 26 at The Flaming Star so put that on your list of things to do.

Keep up with the latest entertainment on our Calendar.

ADVISORYNo advisories to report this week other than remember to have all your boat safety items.  The N.C. Wildlife game wardens are busily checking boaters so be ready when they approach your boat!  I’ve heard of one person being stopped six times this year so they are busy.  You might want to jot down the officer’s name when checking you so that if there is a trend here, we will know about it.  It would be nice if we had the Coast Guard Auxiliary or some other organization to check our boats and place a sticker on the boat notating that the boat is current on safety equipment.  I witnessed this while on the water in Florida and it cuts down on the “safety” checks by the officers.

PLANT INFO – There have been some questions about the increased water consumption by the plant due to the installation of scrubbers and the lake level dropping while getting some rainfall over the last month or so.  Basically, the plant usage and lake evaporation are the two largest items that draw down the lake level.  Rainfall is the major supplier of water so we are dependent on Mother Nature.  During the summer, we need about 4 inches of rain per month to maintain normal level give or take an inch.  Anything less and the lake level will decrease.  If you want to see the specifics or the math on the hydraulics of the lake and the plant, let me know and I will send it to you.

Hope you have a great weekend
