Happy Memorial Day
Weekend! Don’t forget to honor our troops and remember they are protecting our
rights and way of life! The Person County Museum will hold their annual service
at the museum on Monday at 9:30 AM.
FOOD – Sis’s Café
formerly Mickey’s BBQ in Semora re-opens today with a newly renovated, fresh
look inside! C.T. and Carolyn Hicks along with Sharon Solomon have done a great
job refreshing the café. Their hours to start are 11-3 and 5-8 Tuesday thru
Saturday. If they get enough response, they may open late Saturdays to serve
the large crowd leaving The Flaming Star. Their menu includes country cooking,
fresh hamburgers and hot dogs, homemade specials, chitterlings, frog legs, fresh
salads and many other items. Give them a call or stop by.

I see movement on the
site for the new Cookout in Roxboro so hopefully it will not be long to
drive up and get a charcoal cooked burger and shake!

so be sure to put that on your calendar. Wines will be on special and 10%

Bill Lester says he
will be playing the top Beach and Shag songs this Saturday afternoon. Tune into
to Bill at 96.7 FM and give him a call as you cruise the lake at 599-0266 to
request your favorite. With gas prices, I’m sure there will be more “float boat
parties” on the lake where a group of pontoon and other boats all tie to
together and hang out. Bill will be playing beach tunes from 3 to 7 PM every
Saturday.
Mayo Park is having a
Bluegrass and Country music this Saturday night May 24th starting at
7 PM. See more info at this link: Mayo.personcounty.net
PERSONAL
FAVORITES – From time to time,
I bring you some of my local favorites in and around our great County. This
week I want to tell you about Flat River Nursery. Now before you think
this is just a flower and shrub business, let me tell you about their secret.
Beautiful, huge strawberries, $1.10 a lb. if you pick
and $1.85 a lb. if they pick (call ahead if you want them already picked). They
have greenhouse tomatoes and greenhouse cucumbers at $2.85 a lb. They have lots
of hanging baskets, bedding plants and herbs. Please call 336-364-2460 for more
information. Located at: 1548 Holeman Ashley Rd., Timberlake, NC which is just
off of 501 South of Roxboro. Or click this link for MapQuest
I can
personally attest to the tomatoes being as close to fresh, garden taste and they
are almost perfect in shape and quality. They are also vine ripened so no
pulling and shipping these green. Buy a bag load because you’ll want to eat
them daily!
Dukes
Mayonnaise –
Dukes has been around a long time and they are based in Greenville, SC. Many
local recipes call for Dukes and the end product is always great with Duke’s and
no other mayo. See their site for recipes: http://www.dukesmayo.com/ That hot dog is just great when it
has southern coleslaw with Duke’s mayo and Wilson’s chili on it! This weekend
is a great time to start that grilling.
Lawry’s
Seasoning – I
was in Myrtle Beach last week and went to a great restaurant named Angelo’s
twice! I know, it sounds like an Italian restaurant and is but the secret is
their steaks! They have great steaks and I found out their secret – it’s
Lawry’s Seasoning. www.lawrys.com I would have bet that they marinated their
steaks and cooked on charcoal. I remember going to Lawry’s Prime Rib Restaurant
years ago in Beverly Hills and getting a great steak. You can find Lawry’s
seasoning at most all the local grocery stores. Just sprinkle it on, rub it in
and put it on the grill. You don’t need anything else. It’s also great on pork
chops!
NEW
BUSINESS –
Grand Occasion Party Rentals is here just in time for that party at the lake or
in your backyard! Located at 969 Old Durham Road inside of DATCO and Landscape
Supply near Talbert Building Supply. They have available: Tables, chairs,
tents, large ice chests, wedding supplies, linen table covers, linen napkins,
cake stands, chocolate fountains, champagne fountains, chafing dishes and many
other party items. Delivery and setup available. Come by or call them at: 336

The
newest gated waterfront community on Hyco is having an open house this weekend.
The Harbor on Hyco off of Covington Road will have tours and agents on
site to describe what they offer from 1:00-4:00 Saturday and Sunday and
11:00-2:00 on Monday. They will also have hot dogs and burgers on lot 12 which
is the first one on the right after the gate. A drawing will be held Monday for
a gas grill so come by and register, eat a burger and see this great new
community. See more info on their web site at: http://www.theharboronhyco.com
Speaking
of web sites, I’m sure you are aware that with the cost of gasoline, many people

products and services. Electronic Solutions, Inc. is currently
offering package deals for web sites so contact ESI if you would like to
establish a new web site or update your existing one. We have packages starting
at $350 and up so we have a solution for every budget! Call ESI and ask for
